Town Hall Backdrop

As part of the Gordon St Project is to look at ways of engaging young people in the project and using their creative skills. I have recently been working with some young people designing and painting a backdrop for Dargaville Town Hall.

The Council, who run the hall, wanted a new painted backdrop, which represented the local area. I put together a design using the young people's drawings and sorted out the paint etc. They got the backdrop painted in less than two days, so it would be ready for a number of concerts in the hall.

There still some more items to add and this will be done as stencils over the next couple of weeks.

Well done to Brigita who entered a number of lovely zines. The winning zine is below, along with a selection of the other entries and thank you to all those who entered.

Natural Defences

The main element of the Gordon St Project is developing ideas to protect the fences in the reserve from graffiti vandalism. But also looking how to improve the overall area, to encourage people to use the space and to improve the ecosystem in the storm drain which runs through the area.

To link the two ideas, I have started working on some designs taking elements of the flora and fauna in the area and looking at how they defend themselves.

Early next year I will be working with students from Dargaville High School, we will be doing a survey of the area to see what creatures and plants are present and using those as our starting point to designing the fence protection.
